Invitation

Dear Colleagues!

The 22 nd  Mendeleev Congress

The XXII nd  Mendeleev Congress which will take place at Sirius federal territory, Russia, from October 7 to 12, 2024 is one of the main events dedicated to the 190th anniversary of D.I. Mendeleev and the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The scientific program includes plenary and section lectures, poster presentations, symposia and round-table discussions on main directions of chemistry, chemical technology and related areas. A special emphasis will be paid to the chemical education and a special program will be dedicated to young people – schoolchildren and students.

Mendeleev Congresses are held each 4–5 years in various scientific and cultural centers of Russia and determine the main define for the development of chemical science and industry in our country. At the same time, Mendeleev Congresses are important international scientific forums in the field of fundamental and applied chemistry. The topics of the congresses cover the main directions in chemical science, technology and industry, chemical education and collaboration between business and science and industry, which significantly differs from ordinary thematic scientific conferences.

The first Mendeleev Congress, held in St. Petersburg in 1907, was dedicated to the memory of the great Russian scientist D.I. Mendeleev (1834–1907). Later, congresses were held in Moscow, Leningrad (St. Petersburg), Kazan, Kharkov, Kiev, Alma-Ata, Baku, Tashkent, Minsk, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg. The previous, XXI Mendeleev Congress, held in 2019 in St. Petersburg, became the main event of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Periodic Law by D.I. Mendeleev – the most famous universal scientific achievements of Russia all times of the existence of national science.

The Congress venue will be the Federal Territory “Sirius”, located in the Imereti Lowland between the Mzymta and Psou rivers and surrounded by the Caucasus Mountains and a unique natural reserve. The 2014 Winter Olympics took place here, and today it hosts the Sirius
Educational Center created by the Talent and Success Educational Foundation and the Sirius University of Science and Technology. The University continues the logic of the Sirius Educational Center and unites students, outstanding world-famous scientists who are just
beginning their career in science, leading Russian industries, companies, universities and research centers.

The congress traditionally demonstrates the achievements of world and domestic chemical science in such areas as the methodology of chemical synthesis, structural and functional materials (including nanomaterials and nanotechnologies), biomolecular chemistry and biotechnology (including biocatalysis and biosensor analysis), molecular electronics, supramolecular chemistry, electrochemical energy, alternative energy carriers and fuels from plant materials, new methods and instruments for studying chemical processes and analyzing substances, as well as many others. At the site in Sirius, for the first time, the congress will establish a program for schoolchildren, “Mendeleev’s Congress for Children.” Discussions of current chemical problems are often held within the framework of round tables, which provide a unique platform for discussions between representatives of science and industry, which determine the main directions of research and development and interaction of modern chemical-technological industries. A feature of the XXII Mendeleev Congress on General and Applied Chemistry will be a discussion of the role of chemistry in achieving the technological sovereignty of the Russian Federation and the contribution of chemical science and materials science to solving the problems of priority areas of technological sovereignty and structural adaptation of the Russian Federation, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of April 15, 2023 No. 603.

It is planned that 4,000 people, including 500 foreign scientists, will participate in the XXII Mendeleev Congress. It is also planned that companies involved in the production of chemical products and materials, including pharmaceutical substances, will participate (with a presentation of the results of their activities and products). This will certainly help attract public attention to science in general. The participation of representatives of various research organizations and higher educational institutions in the work of the congress will contribute to the strengthening of scientific cooperation in the Russian Federation and worldwide, the fruitful exchange of ideas between scientists and their involvement in joint research and educational projects and programs.

We will be glad to invite you as the participants of the Congress and as business partners of enterprises and organizations from various regions of Russia.

We are waiting for you at the Federal Territory “Sirius”!
